~ Spokane Police Recover Over $100,000 Worth of Stolen Property in Recent Bust

In the early hours of March 11, 2026, Spokane police received a tip from the owner of a stolen laptop. The laptop owner had their vehicle broken into the day before and had tracked the location of their MacBook to a house on 400 E. Sanson Avenue. Acting on this information, officers responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers noticed a black Ford Ranger with a couch in the truck bed parked nearby in the 5300 block of N Addison St. This caught their attention as they had just investigated a burglary at a residence on 1600 E. Central Avenue where a witness reported seeing a black Ford Ranger leaving with a couch in tow.

Officers approached the house on N Addison St and encountered Zachary Guthas (30) in the detached garage. After questioning him, Guthas eventually admitted to driving the black Ford Ranger and burglarizing the residence on E Central Avenue.

During their investigation, an officer noticed several valuable items in the vicinity and began checking serial numbers to see if they were stolen. It was discovered that one of these items, a snowblower, had been reported stolen in a previous incident.

With enough evidence to link Guthas to both burglaries and possession of stolen property, officers obtained a search warrant from a judge. The search yielded approximately $100,000 worth of stolen goods including tools, toolboxes, bikes, e-bikes, motorcycles, and yard/lawn tools. In total, seventeen victims from across Spokane County were identified through these recovered items.

As a result of their diligent work and thorough investigation, officers were able to develop probable cause for Guthas' arrest for Second Degree Residential Burglary and Second Degree Possession of Stolen Property.

The Spokane Police Department is urging anyone who has been a victim of property crime in Spokane to report it immediately to crime check at 509.456.2233 or 911. The successful bust and recovery of over $100,000 worth of stolen property is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Spokane Police Department in serving their community.
