Sterling Heights Celebrates America's 250th with Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on May 25

~ Sterling Heights, MI - As the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, the city of Sterling Heights is gearing up for its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on May 25. This cherished and patriotic tradition, now in its 47th year, will pay tribute to America's rich history and the heroes who served it.

The day's events will kick off at 9 a.m. with the Memorial Day Ceremony at the courtyard between City Hall and the Sterling Heights Police Department. The ceremony will feature remarks from Grand Marshal Manny Gonzales, Mayor Michael C. Taylor, elected officials, and Art Commission Chairperson Barbara Chudzik. The Motor City Blend Chorus will also perform musical selections throughout the program, adding to the solemn and patriotic atmosphere.

This year's ceremony will include several unforgettable highlights, including a flyover of authentic Tuskegee Airmen World War II aircraft at approximately 9:30 a.m. Attendees can also look forward to patriotic performances by the 1st Michigan Colonial Fife & Drum Corps. In honor of America's milestone birthday, a local quilting group will present "Quilts of Valor" to three local veterans in a moving tribute to their service and sacrifice.

Following the ceremony, the Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. from Dodge Park and travel through the roundabout before concluding at Heritage Junior High School on Metro Parkway. Spectator parking will be available along the parade route as well as in front of the Sterling Heights Police Department and Richard J. Notte Civic Center.

The parade promises to be a lively procession with floats, veterans, community organizations, marching bands, walkers, and specialty units making their way through Sterling Heights' streets. The popular Moslem Shriners will also make an appearance with their enthusiastic group of volunteer clowns, cowboys, motorcyclists, and more.

Mayor Michael C. Taylor expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, stating, "The Sterling Heights Memorial Day ceremony and parade has become one of our community's most meaningful and well-attended traditions. It brings residents together through patriotism and pride and is a special time to remember the brave servicemen and women who gave their lives for our country. While we celebrate their legacy, we also encourage our residents to reflect on their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness that continue to inspire us all year."
