Springfield: Prosecutor determines February officer-involved shooting justified

Springfield, MO ~ On March 26, 2025, Greene County Prosecutor Dan Patterson announced that the use of deadly force by a Springfield Police Officer on February 16, 2025, was deemed justified. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Tyler Dillon from Springfield, had succumbed to his injuries from the officer-involved shooting on March 25, 2025. Dillon's family has been notified of his passing.

According to previous information released by the Springfield Police Department, officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 3405 E. Lomita St. at approximately 10:41 p.m. on February 16th. The suspect was reported to be armed with a gun at the time of the incident.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Dillon standing in the driveway. Despite verbal commands from an officer, Dillon refused to comply and was subsequently shot by the officer. Life-saving measures were immediately provided and Dillon was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. No officers or bystanders were harmed during the incident.

Following protocol, the officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. However, they have since been released and are back on active duty.

The results of a concurrent criminal investigation will be presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office for review. This marks Springfield's third homicide of 2025.
