Springfield-Greene County WIC contract renewed for FY26
EntSun News/11079915
~ The Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services has recently announced the renewal of a contract for the continuation of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program in Greene County. This contract will provide $1,838,662 in funding for WIC for the fiscal year 2026.
WIC, which stands for Women, Infants and Children, is a program with a mission to safeguard the health of women, infants and children who are at nutritional risk by increasing access to nutritious foods. In addition to providing access to healthy foods, WIC also offers education on healthy eating, breastfeeding support and referrals to healthcare and other community resources.
Through the WIC supplemental foods benefits package, families can receive fortified milk and cheese, eggs, whole grain bread products, hot or cold cereals, 100% fruit juices and fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. These benefits are crucial in promoting proper nutrition for pregnant women, new mothers and young children.
In fiscal year 2025, Springfield-Greene County WIC served 10,894 members. Tara Williams, the WIC Program Coordinator expressed her excitement about this achievement stating that "2025 was a monumental year for WIC in Greene County." She also mentioned that during this year they were able to move to a new clinic location on Glenstone and hire new staff while continuing to serve their members with care. Williams looks forward to another successful year of supporting families in their community through the WIC program.

To be eligible for WIC services, individuals must be pregnant or postpartum women or have children up to age five. The income eligibility threshold is set at 185% of the federal poverty level. For example, in 2025 a family of three would need an annual gross household income of $49,303 or less to qualify. This threshold increases slightly for larger families.
It is important to note that WIC serves eligible families from all backgrounds and family structures. This includes two-parent households, single parents, foster parents, grandparents caring for grandchildren, LGBTQIA+ parents and even migrant and refugee families.
For those interested in learning more about the WIC program, including locations and hours of operation or to determine eligibility, they can call (417) 864-1540 or visit the website wicworks417.org.

In accordance with federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, WIC is committed to providing equal access to their services without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.
WIC also offers program information in languages other than English for those who may need it. Individuals with disabilities who require alternative means of communication can contact their local state agency or USDA's TARGET Center for assistance.
If anyone believes they have experienced discrimination while participating in the WIC program, they can file a complaint by completing a Form AD-3027 which can be obtained online or from any USDA office. The completed form should be submitted to USDA by mail at U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights 1400 Independence Avenue SW Washington D.C. 20250-9410; by fax at (833) 256-1665 or (202) 690-7442; or by email at [insert email address].
