The relationship between SPD and OPO has also grown stronger over time through intentional efforts from officers, SPD leadership, and dedicated employees and commissioners at OPO. Chief Hall even traveled with OPO for national training on civilian oversight.

Thanks to overwhelming support from Spokane's voters, funding for OPO has increased through the Community Safety Sales tax passed in 2024.
