EntSun News/11099592
~ Spokane, WA - In the early hours of August 10th, Spokane Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the intersection of North Ash St and West Northwest Blvd. The pedestrian was found at the scene and was immediately transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Fortunately, she was released later that morning.
Due to the severity of the victim's injuries, the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was called in to take over the investigation. Upon arrival, investigators noticed that the driver showed signs of impairment. As a result, 19-year-old Laythia M. Warner was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail for Vehicular Assault.

Officer T. Leming, PIO, emphasized that there is no excuse for impaired driving. With technology making it easier than ever to find a safe ride home, choosing to drive while under the influence is not only unnecessary but also potentially devastating. Rideshare services, taxis, public transportation, and even a call or text to a friend or family member are all viable alternatives to putting oneself and others at risk.
In light of this incident, Officer Leming urges individuals who may be impaired to put down their keys and pick up their phone instead. A ride home may cost a few dollars or require an inconvenient phone call, but driving while impaired can cost someone their life. Let's all make responsible decisions and prioritize safety on our roads.
