Spokane: Male In Custody After Domestic Violence Court Order Service Results In Emergent Entry Into A Residence; Multiple Firearms Recovered
EntSun News/11081609
~ Spokane, Washington - On January 8th, 2026, the Spokane Police Department responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in the 2300 block of East Longfellow. According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg, Public Information Officer for SPD, the call was in response to a Domestic Violence Court Order that needed to be served.
The individual named in the court order was identified as 32-year-old Curtis Charles David Taylor. The order also stated that several minor children were listed as protected parties and were believed to be inside the home with Taylor. Additionally, officers were informed that there may be firearms inside the residence and that family members had been attempting to remove them since May of last year.
Upon arrival at the residence, officers made verbal contact with Taylor at the front door. They informed him of the court order and requested that he turn over the children to law enforcement. However, Taylor refused and stated that his children were not going anywhere. He eventually opened the door but continued to yell at officers and demand that they leave his property. He also took an aggressive stance and declared that he would not go to jail and that officers would have to shoot him.

Despite being advised of his arrest, Taylor continued to resist and scream at officers. He then moved towards where the children were believed to be located. Due to his non-compliance with the court order and his threatening behavior, officers made an exigent entry into the home.
Taylor was detained and taken into custody after resisting arrest. The children were found safe and unharmed in a bathroom and were returned to their family. Based on information about firearms in the home and the served court order, officers obtained a search warrant for further investigation.
During their search of the residence, officers discovered a total of six firearms and ammunition. One of these guns was reported stolen. As a result, Taylor was booked into Spokane County Jail on multiple charges including violation of a Domestic Violence No Contact Order, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, custodial interference, and obstructing and resisting arrest.
In light of this incident, Officer Strassenberg urges anyone who is a victim of domestic violence to seek help by contacting Crime Check at 509.456.2233 or the YWCA Domestic Violence Helpline at 509.326.CALL (2255).
Accompanying images released by SPD show the firearms that were recovered during the search. This serves as a reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of taking action to protect oneself and others from such situations.
