Spokane: Flags Lowered for the Victims of the Longview Tragedy

~ Spokane City Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered all flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the victims of the recent tragedy at the Nippon Dynawave facility in Longview, Washington. This directive follows Governor Bob Ferguson's order for state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities to also be lowered on Sunday, May 31.

The incident, which occurred on May 26, 2026, resulted in the death of nine individuals after a tank ruptured at the facility. In remembrance of those who lost their lives, flags will remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on Sunday, June 7. Alternatively, they will be raised first thing Monday morning, June 8.

Communications Director Erin Hut stated that Mayor Brown encourages residents and businesses with flags outside their homes or establishments to join in this recognition and honor the memory of those who tragically lost their lives.
