Spokane: DUI Driver Taken Into Custody After Attempting to Flee from Officers

~ In the early hours of May 4th, 2026, a Dodge Charger was spotted by SPD patrol officers in the Downtown area. The vehicle, which was traveling west on Sprague Avenue near Bernard, was recognized by one of the officers from a previous incident where it had fled from an attempted traffic stop.

As the officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, it quickly sped away from the area. The suspect vehicle then drove into an area near Main and Pine, just east of Downtown. Despite the patrol vehicle's attempts to stop it, the suspect vehicle failed to yield and continued driving at a high rate of speed.

There were concerns that a collision would occur as the suspect vehicle turned around and headed towards the patrol car. In order to ensure safety, the officer disengaged from the attempted stop by turning off their emergency lights. However, due to its reckless driving and high speed, the suspect vehicle lost control and crashed before coming to a complete stop.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Trevon L. McLemore, was quickly detained by officers who noticed signs of possible impairment. McLemore was taken into custody for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle and DUI. He was later booked into Spokane County Jail.

Photos taken at the scene show the aftermath of the crash with one image showing the crashed vehicle and another showing a closer view of its damage.

This incident serves as a reminder for drivers to obey traffic laws and cooperate with law enforcement when pulled over. The SPD is committed to ensuring public safety and will continue to take necessary actions against those who put others at risk through reckless behavior on the road.
