~ Spokane Police Department and US Marshals Collaborate to Apprehend Suspect in Rape and Child Molestation Case

In July of 2025, the Spokane Police Department's Special Victims Unit (SVU) launched an investigation into allegations of rape by a male suspect involved in a romantic relationship with a female resident of Spokane. The SVU obtained video evidence that supported the victim's claims, as well as additional footage showing the suspect exposing himself to a juvenile female who also resided in the same residence as the adult victim.

As a result of their thorough investigation, on December 11, 2025, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 42-year-old Ryan M. Cheek on eight counts, including two counts of 2nd Degree Rape related to the adult victim and charges of 1st Degree Child Molestation and Indecent Exposure involving the juvenile victim. However, it was discovered that Cheek had fled the Spokane area upon learning of the investigation and had likely returned to his home state of Connecticut.

In order to apprehend Cheek, the Spokane Police Department partnered with the United States Marshals Service (USMS). On December 16, with coordination from local authorities in Connecticut, Cheek was taken into custody by USMS. This successful collaboration between law enforcement agencies resulted in Cheek's swift capture.

In the coming weeks, SVU Detectives will travel to Connecticut to assist in Cheek's extradition back to Spokane to face charges. Officer Daniel Strassenberg, PIO for the Spokane Police Department, commended both departments for their joint efforts in bringing justice for the victims. He also urged anyone with information regarding this case or any other similar incidents to come forward and report it immediately.
