Product-related injuries among children reach five-year high as cases rise 31%

MIAMI - EntSun -- Product-related injuries among children aged 12 and under reached a five-year high in 2025, according to new analysis from The G Law Group, with emergency room ("ER") visits rising by more than 31% since 2021.

Analysis of National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) data found an estimated 3.2 million children aged 12 and under were treated in emergency departments for injuries involving consumer products in 2025. This an increase of 4.4% compared with 2024 and equates to more than 8,800 injuries every day, or approximately one child every 10 seconds.

The increase was recorded across every childhood age group, with injuries among children aged 9 to 12 rising by almost 42% over the five-year period.

Most strikingly, injuries involving powered scooters increased faster than any other commonly reported product category. Estimated injuries rose from 3,987 in 2021 to 18,915 in 2025, an increase of 374%, while injuries climbed almost 49% in the past year alone.

While injuries continue to rise, many Americans remain concerned about product safety.

A nationally representative survey of 2,002 U.S. adults, commissioned by The G Law Group, found that 34% worry about product safety when buying toys, and 21% say they have purchased a recalled product.

Among parents, more than one in nine (11.5%) say their child has previously been injured by a recalled product.

Despite those experiences, 28% of Americans say they assume products sold in the United States are safe without checking whether recalls or safety warnings have been issued.

The survey also highlighted widespread uncertainty about consumers' legal rights after an injury. Nearly one quarter (24%) say they would not know what to do if a defective or unsafe product caused them injury, while 25% admit they do not understand their legal rights if a product turns out to be unsafe.
