Pet Professional Guild Launches Landmark Professional Equid Training Accreditation Pilot Program
EntSun News/11087958
The first-of-its-kind credentialing system brings science-based, ethical, humane standards to the equid industry.
INVERNESS, Fla. - EntSun -- The Pet Professional Accreditation Board, the accreditation arm of the Pet Professional Guild (PPG), is proud to announce the launch of its pilot program for the Professional Equid Training Accreditation. Developed over 12 months, this comprehensive accreditation marks a significant milestone in providing equid professionals with a validated, ethics-based credential. This accreditation will help equid trainers demonstrate their commitment to ethical practices, enhance their professional reputation, and open up new career opportunities within the industry. Similar to our feline and canine accreditations, the equine program incorporates rigorous standards and ethical guidelines, tailored specifically to the needs of horse and other equid trainers and handlers, further distinguishing itself by addressing the unique challenges and requirements of the equid field.

The new equid accreditation is administered by the Pet Professional Accreditation Board (PPAB) and is designed to assess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The credential features two distinct tiers:
Professional Equid Trainer: Assessing the core competencies and hands-on skills required for force-free training.
Professional Equid Behavior Consultant: A high-level designation requiring supplementary behavior examinations and the submission of detailed case studies.
By establishing these rigorous benchmarks, PPAB aims to help equid guardians identify professionals who are committed to science-based, humane methods. This credential allows force-free trainers to distinguish themselves from those who may not adhere to the same stringent ethical and educational standards.
"I am really proud of our Equid and Educational Divisions for the hard work they have put into this accreditation to bring about a valid professional equid behavior accreditation," said Niki Tudge, President of the Pet Professional Guild. "This collaboration ensures that we are offering a robust, meaningful credential that serves both the professional community and the equids in their care."

The pilot program will enable PPAB to refine the assessment process before a full-scale global launch. "The development of this accreditation has been a lengthy process that required significant input from our entire team," explains Michelle Martiya, Chair of the Equid Division. "We are extremely proud of what has been achieved and are eager to pilot the examination so we can assess the effectiveness of each question and make any needed adjustments before the full rollout."
Martiya adds, "The pilot program should be completed by the end of April, and the full credentials should be available through the Pet Professional Accreditation Board, hosted on the PPG website, by May 1st."
