U.K.Based Animal Behavior Professional to Help Build the Organization in the British Isles
INVERNESS, Fla. - EntSun -- The Pet Professional Guild (PPG) has appointed Tom Candy to its Steering Committee representing PPG's British Isles Chapter with immediate effect. Tom joins his colleagues, British Isles Chapter Co-leaders Dayle Pierce and Nathan Watson, to build out and support the chapter.
Tom started volunteering in animal rescue as a teenager and has worked in a variety of aspects of the field, including fundraising, home checking, transporting, and general day-to-day operations. His passion for animal welfare and training led him to undertake a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in bio-veterinary science and a Master of Science degree in clinical animal behavior from the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom. Since graduating, Tom has worked at Dogs Trust as a training and behavior advisor, eventually working in seven rehoming centers before being promoted to senior training and behavior advisor. In this role, he supports the training and behavior teams across the southwest United Kingdom and is responsible for supporting and advising managers and training and behavior advisors on matters relating to behavioral concerns and helping to promote higher levels of welfare for dogs.

Tom is a certified clinical animal behaviorist with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council in the United Kingdom, and a certified canine behavior consultant and certified shelter behavior specialist with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. Tom is also a behavior and welfare trustee for Hope Rescue Wales and runs a Facebook page and podcast called Simplifying Shelter Behaviour that offers free tools and tips for those working in shelters. He speaks on shelter behavior topics in webinars, podcasts, workshops, and conferences both in the United Kingdom and internationally.
"Tom is a fabulous professional, and we are excited that he is joining us on the PPG Steering Committee," said Niki Tudge, PPG president. "An important part of our focus at PPG is the rescue and shelter arena, and the loads of experience that Tom brings to the table from working in this sector will be invaluable."
Added Tom, "I am thrilled to be joining PPG's Steering Committee. PPG has been a big part of my behavior journey, from first attending the PPG summit in 2017. I am a big fan of education and progressing the industry, and PPG's ethos and guiding principles match perfectly with this. I am happy to be able to help progress and build PPG in the British Isles."

PPG's British Isles Chapter originated as a charter established shortly after PPG's inception, with the purpose of representing the organization's many valued members throughout the British Isles. PPG British Isles (PPGBI) celebrated many accomplishments, including being the primary provider of PPG resources, benefits and events for its British Isles members, and also playing an instrumental role in developing PPG's junior memberships. PPGBI is now designated as a chapter of PPG, resulting in a more cohesive organization and assurance that everything PPG does coordinates with what's happening "across the pond."
