NEWS RELEASE: Maryland Chefs Encouraged to Submit Recipes for Governor Moore's 'Buy Local' Cookout
EntSun News/11092765
~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture has announced that the 2026 Governor's Buy Local Cookout will be held on Friday, July 17th in Annapolis. This annual event celebrates Maryland agriculture by showcasing local products and promoting partnerships between restaurants and farmers.
The cookout, which will be attended by Maryland elected officials, agricultural industry stakeholders, community leaders, non-profit organizations, and local farmers and seafood producers, will feature dishes made with ingredients such as wild-caught Chesapeake blue catfish, oysters, beef, sweet corn, and watermelon.
In order to participate in the cookout, the Maryland Department of Agriculture is seeking teams of chefs who are also farmers or watermen. These "chef" teams must have professional culinary training and can include high school or college students who may receive donations of blue catfish or chicken if selected to participate.
Recipes for the cookout will be judged in four categories: appetizer, main dish, side dish or salad, and dessert. Judges will consider factors such as simplicity, creativity, ingredient availability, geographic representation, and use of local ingredients. It is required that at least 50% of the ingredients used in each recipe are locally sourced. Recipes should yield four to eight servings.
