Naperville Police Remind Motorists: Put the Phone Away or Pay

~ Naperville Police Department Partners with State Agencies to Combat Distracted Driving
As Distracted Driving Awareness Month kicks off, the Naperville Police Department is teaming up with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police, and other local law enforcement agencies to increase enforcement efforts throughout April. This partnership aims to crack down on distracted driving and raise awareness about its dangers.
According to Naperville Police Sgt. Eric Muska, distracted driving poses a risk to everyone on the road. Even a quick glance at a phone can have devastating consequences. As officers ramp up their patrols, they will be specifically looking for violations such as texting, social media use, and video viewing while driving. They will also be reminding motorists to put their phones away and focus on the road.

In Illinois, it is not only dangerous but also illegal to manually use an electronic communication device while driving. The consequences of distracted driving can be severe, which is why the campaign's slogan is "Put the phone away or pay." If drivers need to send a message, check directions, or return a call, they are urged to pull over and park safely first.
The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT. This partnership between law enforcement agencies serves as a reminder for all drivers to stay focused on the road and avoid distractions at all costs. Let's work together to make our roads safer for everyone.
