MoMojo Records signs Jad Tariq
EntSun News/11049337
Debut album, 'Jad Tariq Sings', features some of Memphis' finest players
LANCASTER, Pa. - EntSun -- Memphis-based Rhythm & Blues guitarist/vocalist, Jad Tariq, began his music career at age 12, cutting his teeth in local bars of the Connecticut tri-state area. At age 18, he moved to Memphis to immerse himself in the rich musical heritage of the blues, and has since become a mainstay on the scene. Tariq's guitar style is characterized by a swinging jazz rhythm that merges seamlessly with the raw emotional intensity of the blues. His vocal style is in the tradition of the blues shouters of the '40s and '50s, while also boasting the ability to croon heartfelt jazz ballads. Tariq has garnered national attention through collaborations with multiple Blues Music Award-winner John Németh and renowned musician Tony Holiday. In Memphis he performs frequently leading his own band, and also as sideman to artists including John Paul Keith, Wyly Bigger, Benton Parker, Earl "The Pearl" Banks, Jon Hay, and many others.
On Jad Tariq Sings, Tariq leads his swinging band through eight exciting tunes; five clever originals and three classics of years past. The album features a blend of 1950s style rhythm & blues influences while also incorporating modern pop sensibilities. Whether shouting uptempo jump numbers or crooning sophisticated ballads, Tariq delivers the goods with sensitive understanding, avoiding all instrumental excess in favor of tight arrangements that support his charming melodies and thoughtful lyrics.
