Microsoft Created TypeScript. One Developer Used It to Build an MMO With Dragons

CALGARY, Alberta - EntSun -- TypeScript was created at Microsoft to help developers manage large JavaScript applications. One independent developer has now used it to manage goblins, dragons, player housing, underground caverns, and an economy involving an alarming number of chairs.

Bitiverse is a free persistent-world MMO that runs directly in a browser. Both its game server and client are built with TypeScript, allowing the same deterministic world rules to operate on both sides of the connection.

The game features real-time multiplayer, combat, magic, fishing, farming, gathering, crafting, player trading, guilds, markets, housing, quests, dungeons, bosses, and tamable mounts.

Recent updates added three new explorable regions:

• Floating sky islands reached with flying mounts
• An underground cavern world reached by burrowing
• An underwater world explored with swimming mounts

Bitiverse also received a major quest expansion, bringing the game to 33 quests with level requirements, prerequisite chains, experience rewards, dungeon contracts, gathering jobs, and regional expeditions.

"I kept adding systems until the project required architecture documents," said developer Dan Bressers. "Then I added a dragon."

Bitiverse is available free through itch.io and remains under active development.
