'Tiny Tunes' shares the joys of classical music with young children
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - EntSun -- A fun and innovative music series designed for children from pre-school through eight years of age and their families is being launched by the Michigan Philharmonic in September.
The new "Tiny Tunes" program begins on Saturday, Sept. 17 and has been specially created to help children learn about and appreciate classical music in a fun and relaxing way. All of the concerts begin at 10 a.m. in the historic Jack Wilcox Theater at Plymouth's PARC complex (located at 650 Church).
The first concert is called "Meet the Instruments of the Orchestra" and features a selection of music that will help showcase the various parts of a symphony. Led by the Philharmonic's musicians and longtime Music Director and Conductor Nan Washburn, children will have a chance to discover how musical instruments work and the unique sounds created by the Philharmonic's woodwinds, brass, strings and percussion sections.

The November concert on Saturday, Nov. 19 will showcase the classic "Peter and the Wolf" as well as other symphonic "stories" and will feature student narrators from Ovation Performing Arts.
The Philharmonic will offer two more "Tiny Tunes" concerts at PARC in 2023.
First up on Saturday, Feb. 25, is the "Rhythm and Dance" performance featuring the interplay of dance with classical music featuring young dancers from Artistry Dance Center during some of the pieces.
This concert features music from "Coco" by Germaine Franco and Robert Lopez, "Juba Dance" by Florence Price, "Three Dances from Swan Lake" by Tchaikovsky, "Lord of the Dance" by Ronan Hardiman, "The Charleston" by James P. Johnson and "Pink Panther" by Henry Mancini.
The final concert in the series is planned for Saturday, May 6. It will give young concert goers a chance experience the five ensembles of the Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO). This group of student musicians ranges in age from eight to 18 who perform their own concerts throughout the year as well as with the full Philharmonic during its regular season.
