Mesa: Councilmember Julie Spilsbury Appointed to Regional Human Services Committee

~ Mesa Councilmember Julie Spilsbury has been appointed to the newly formed Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee (CICC) by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Council. The appointment was announced on Tuesday, June 1st, and Spilsbury will serve a three-year term representing the East Valley.

The CICC was established in April 2025 with the goal of guiding regional planning and coordination of human service initiatives across Maricopa County. The committee consists of 21 members, including representatives from local and tribal governments, human service organizations, faith-based groups, and the private sector. Together, they will work collaboratively to set strategic priorities for regional initiatives, mobilize and manage action teams, and bring together subject matter experts to provide targeted technical assistance.

"I am honored to represent Mesa and the East Valley on the Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee," said Councilmember Spilsbury. "Our region faces complex challenges, and I look forward to working with partners across the Valley to strengthen our community and support Arizona families."

Spilsbury brings a wealth of experience and leadership to this role. She has served on numerous boards and committees across multiple sectors and levels of government. Currently, she sits on the boards of Azura (formerly Mesa United Way), the IDEA Museum, Children's Action Alliance, and MesaCAN. She also serves on Mesas Public Safety Committee as well as chairs the Community & Cultural Development Committee. Additionally, she is vice chair of Mesas Education & Workforce Development Roundtable. On a national level, she represents Mesa on two National League of Cities committees: Youth, Education, and Families (YEF) Council and the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Federal Advocacy Committee.
