Honored at the 9th annual The League of 1789 PA Society Event December 7th
PHILADELPHIA - EntSun -- WHO: Councilmember Maria D. Quiñones-Sánchez and CEO/President of the Urban Affairs Coalition, Sharmain Matlock-Turner.
WHAT: On Saturday, December 7, 2019, Philadelphia Councilmember Maria D. Quiñones-Sánchez and CEO/President of the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC), Sharmain Matlock-Turner, will be honored at the 9th annual 'The League of 1789' Pennsylvania Society reception. The reception recognizes contributions made by leaders and elected officials of color, who continue to enhance and impact their communities for which they serve.
Honorees:
Councilmember Maria D. Quiñones-Sánchez - A veteran activist with more than 30 years of service to the City of Philadelphia. She is currently serving a third four-year term on City Council, and recently re-elected in the 2019 general election. Maria has advocated for creating and preserving family-sustaining jobs, investing in a trained and educated workforce, reducing blight and transforming vacant land, keeping families in their homes, mandating ethics and transparency in government, and various important issues across the City. She is the first Latina elected to a district seat in City Council.

Sharmain Matlock-Turner - Celebrating her 20th year as the President and CEO of the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC), Sharmain is the first woman to lead the organization since its inception. The Urban Affairs Coalition, unites government, business, neighborhoods, and individual initiative to improve the quality of life in the region. In partnership with a diverse Board of Directors, made up of business, nonprofit and community leaders, Sharmain and her team of managers and more than 350 employees, create partnerships and build consensus to help families reduce poverty and reach the middle class.
The League of 1789 reception will be held before the Pennsylvania Society Dinner (http://www.pasociety.com), from 1pm to 4pm., at The Kimberly Hotel. This reception is by invite only.
