Madison: Rainy Friday, Urban Flash Flooding Possible Thanks to Frost
EntSun News/11086187
~ As the city of Madison prepares for the incoming rain systems expected to hit the area on Friday and Friday night, officials are closely monitoring the situation. According to reports, heavy rain is possible at times and there is a chance of severe storms on Friday afternoon and evening.
The city is particularly concerned about the potential for flash flooding due to the frost in the ground not being fully thawed yet this season. This means that less water will be able to soak into the ground, increasing the chances of minimal flash flooding.

In light of this, residents are advised to avoid historically flood-prone areas during this rain system. These areas include E. Mifflin St. at N. Blount St. and E. Mifflin St. at N. Livingston St., E. Johnson St. at N. Third St., and University Ave. & N. Midvale Blvd.
To proactively address any potential issues, the City of Madison Engineering Division operations crews are working to clear debris from high priority grates in order to ensure that the stormwater system functions as efficiently as possible during this time.
Residents are also reminded that they can report any flooding they may experience and can refer to a historical street flooding map for reference.
The city urges everyone to stay safe and take necessary precautions during this upcoming rain system.
