Long Beach Public Works to Host Community Meeting on 10th Street Greenbelt Project
EntSun News/11090685
Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Department of Public Works is inviting community members to attend a community meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Recreation Park Community Center (4900 E. 7th St.) to learn more about the 10th Street Greenbelt Project.
The project, located between 8th and 10th streets and bounded by Termino and Grand avenues, is part of a larger vision plan to transform the greenbelt that stretches from 4th Street to 10th Street. Originally a historic Pacific Electric Red Car rail line, the corridor was repurposed into recreational open space through the 2014 Pacific Electric Right-of-Way Vision Plan. The 10th Street Greenbelt area opened for public use in 2016.
City staff will be sharing the final design at the meeting, which has been informed by continued collaboration with the community, particularly the Greenbelt Heights Neighborhood Association. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the next phase of improvements planned for early construction in 2027 and completion by fall of that year.
Interpretation services in Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog are available upon request by Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The first phase of improvements to the greenbelt was completed in 2022 with funding from Measure A. This included formalizing a heavily used dirt trail with approximately 900 linear feet of new walkway, replacing rolling entry gates, and adding bollards for pedestrian safety. The second phase of improvements will further develop the site into a welcoming open space and community amenity with native trees and landscaping, irrigation systems, new spur trails off the main path, pathway lighting, seating areas and new signage.
In addition to Measure A funding, an additional $630,000 was allocated for detailed design as part of the City Council approved Fiscal Year 2026 Capital Improvement Program. The project also received a $1.5 million grant from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District under the Natural Lands, Local Beaches Water Conservation and Protection Program in October 2025, which was awarded in March 2026.
The 10th Street Greenbelt Project is part of Elevate '28, a comprehensive five-year infrastructure investment plan aimed at revitalizing parks and community facilities while improving accessibility and multimodal transportation throughout Long Beach. More information about Elevate '28 can be found at lbelevate28.com.
