Leeds energy boss completes 74km treadmill marathon for Cash for Kids
EntSun News/11090761
LEEDS, U.K. - EntSun -- Group Managing Director Kieran Dixon ran eight hours on Earth Day on a treadmill to support disadvantaged children across North and West Yorkshire.
A Leeds energy consultancy leader has gone the extra mile, quite literally, to raise thousands of pounds for Cash for Kids.
Group Managing Director Kieran Dixon of Smarta Energy completed a gruelling 74km treadmill challenge yesterday (Wednesday 22 April 2026), running continuously from 9 am to 5 pm in support of the local Cash for Kids North and West Yorkshire branch.
The "Running 9–5" fundraiser, held on Earth Day, saw Dixon push through a full working day on the treadmill at Smarta Energy's Leeds headquarters. For every kilometre completed, the company funded the planting of a tree, resulting in 74 new trees being supported as part of the initiative.
The challenge brought together the wider energy sector, with partners including ENGIE, EDF, Valda Energy Limited and Crown Gas and Power taking part in 10-minute "treadmill takeover" slots. Live donation updates, Q&A's and interactive challenges kept momentum high throughout the day.

Dixon, who hit marathon distance by mid-afternoon, said the event was about more than just fundraising.
"This is about bringing the industry together for something bigger than ourselves," he explained. "We wanted to raise as much as possible for Cash for Kids while showing how the energy sector can have a real, positive impact both socially and environmentally."
Smarta Energy, a Leeds-based digital energy consultancy specialising in sustainable procurement, cost-saving strategies, carbon management, and Net Zero support for businesses, has a long-standing partnership with Cash for Kids North and West Yorkshire. Previous efforts have included a team skydive and regular volunteering.
Kayleigh Beecroft from Cash for Kids described the company as "genuine and passionate" supporters who consistently go above and beyond to help disadvantaged children and families in the region.
The event aimed to raise more than £10,000. Final figures are still being totalled, but early indications suggest strong support from the industry and local community.
