L.A. Senior Rebuilds Life After Nerve Damage and Wheelchair Confinement, Seeks Community Support
EntSun News/11082657
After months in a wheelchair and ongoing recovery, 69-year-old Jonine Scott is slowly walking again but faces serious financial hardship as she works to remain housed, fed, and stable while healing from nerve damage.
LOS ANGELES - EntSun -- Los Angeles, CA — After months in a wheelchair and a long, painful recovery from nerve damage, Los Angeles resident Jonine Scott, 69, is slowly walking again — but her journey is far from over. Now living in supportive housing and surviving on a fixed income, Scott is asking her community for help to remain stable while she continues healing.
In 2024, nerve damage affected Jonine's arms, legs, and mobility, taking away her independence and ability to walk. Simple daily tasks became impossible. For a time, she relied on a wheelchair and outside assistance just to get through the day.
Today, she is regaining mobility step by step, but the financial impact of illness has left her vulnerable. Rent, food, medical expenses, and basic living costs continue to pile up — and fixed income support does not stretch far enough to cover unexpected medical hardship.

"This recovery has taken everything I have — physically, emotionally, and financially," Scott said. "I'm grateful to be walking again, but healing doesn't end when you stand up. It's ongoing, and so are the costs of surviving."
Scott has launched a community fundraising campaign to help cover essential living expenses while she completes recovery and rebuilds stability. Funds raised will go toward:
Beyond survival, Jonine is also sharing her experience through articles on Medium to give hope to other seniors, people with disabilities, and anyone facing medical hardship alone.
"I want people to know that recovery is possible, but no one should have to do it alone," she said. "Asking for help is hard — but sometimes it's the only way forward."
Community members who wish to support Jonine Scott or share her story are encouraged to do so through her fundraising page and social platforms.
