CLEVELAND, July 19, 2025 ~ As the nation mourns the loss of legendary singer Connie Francis, one question continues to echo through the music industry: Where is her place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Despite her undeniable impact on popular music, Francis remains absent from the prestigious institution, sparking outrage and disbelief among fans and industry professionals alike.

The Conference of Presidents of Major Italian American Organizations (COPOMIAO) has taken up the cause, calling for the Rock Hall to #LetHerIn. COPOMIAO President Basil Russo has been vocal about the lack of representation for early female pop vocalists and girl groups in the Rock Hall. He argues that artists like Francis, who paved the way for pop and rock in the 1950s and '60s, deserve recognition for their cultural influence and groundbreaking success.

Russo points out that even Madonna, who shares both Italian American heritage and chart dominance with Francis, was inducted into the Rock Hall in 2008. The exclusion of Francis today seems unjustifiable in comparison.

Francis' legacy speaks for itself. With over 200 million records sold worldwide, she remains one of the top-selling female artists of all time. She was also the first woman to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and had an impressive 53 hits on that same chart. Her music continues to resonate with audiences today, with over 27 billion views on TikTok featuring her songs.

But it's not just her commercial success that sets Francis apart. She broke barriers as a female artist at a time when women were expected to sing but not lead. Born Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero to Italian immigrant parents in Newark, New Jersey, she began performing at local events at just four years old. After years of hard work and persistence, she burst onto the scene in 1958 with her hit song "Who's Sorry Now?"

From there, Francis blazed a trail for other female artists. She became the first woman to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" and went on to headline major tours across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. She also recorded in over a dozen languages, starred in Hollywood musicals, and even had the honor of opening for the Queen of England. By the mid-1960s, Francis had not only become a household name but also a symbol of Italian American pride.

COPOMIAO is now urging the public to join their cause and contact the Rock Hall to advocate for Francis' induction. As her legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists, it is clear that Connie Francis deserves her rightful place among the greats in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
