Idaho Falls Regional Airport Expected to Break All-Time Passenger Record

~ Idaho Falls Regional Airport has received a significant boost in funding for its terminal expansion project. The City of Idaho Falls has secured $12 million in federal Community Project Funding to support the first phase of the project, which aims to improve safety, efficiency, and capacity at the airport.

This funding was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026 at the request of Congressman Mike Simpson. The Idaho Falls Regional Airport Director, Ian Turner, expressed his gratitude for the support from Congressman Simpson and federal partners. He stated that this investment will allow them to address pressing space and operational challenges within the terminal.

The first phase of the terminal expansion project will focus on improvements to baggage screening and ticketing operations. This includes an expanded baggage screening area, safer loading areas for baggage carts, expanded ticket counter and queueing space, and structural modifications for future growth.

The total cost of the planned improvements is estimated at $60 million and will be funded through a combination of federal aviation grants, passenger facility charges, and airport revenue sources. Construction is expected to take approximately 27 months once final design and project phasing are completed.

The Idaho Falls Regional Airport terminal expansion was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026 which was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President in February 2026. This project is crucial for improving safety and efficiency at the airport while also preparing for anticipated growth in the future.
