How Much Is Guesswork Really Costing Your Organization?
EntSun News/11101016
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - EntSun -- Every organization makes decisions with incomplete information.
That is part of leadership.
The problem begins when assumptions become decisions without being properly examined. A business may invest in a new marketing initiative based on an assumption about its customers. A technology investment may be made because competitors are using it. A website may be redesigned without understanding why the existing one isn't performing. A campaign may be launched before the organization understands what is preventing conversion.
The initial decision may appear reasonable. The hidden cost comes afterward. Teams build around the assumption. Resources are committed. Processes change. More activity follows and eventually, the organization may discover that the original problem was misunderstood.
At that point, correcting the course can require significantly more time and resources than understanding the situation would have required at the beginning. This doesn't mean leaders should avoid taking risks. It means organizations should distinguish between informed risk and unnecessary guesswork.

Better decisions begin with better questions.
What are we actually trying to accomplish?
What do we know?
What are we assuming?
What don't we know?
Where are the gaps?
And what evidence should influence the next decision?
In an environment where technology and AI make it easier to move quickly, disciplined decision-making becomes even more important.
Speed can accelerate progress. It can also accelerate the wrong direction.
The strongest organizations aren't necessarily those that make decisions fastest. They are often the ones that understand which decisions deserve more thought before they are made.
