High Point Girl Scout Troop Helps Transform Community Garden at Senior Living Community
EntSun News/11094571
HIGH POINT, N.C. - EntSun -- Providence Place, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in High Point, is proud to announce the ongoing success of its Gardening Rehab Project, an initiative designed to enhance outdoor spaces while fostering meaningful intergenerational connections. In partnership with Girl Scouts Service Unit 151, the project is revitalizing the community garden into a vibrant, welcoming environment for residents, families, and visitors.
The Gardening Rehab Project represents more than a beautification effort—it is a reflection of Providence Place's commitment to engaged living, community partnerships, and intergenerational programming. Through hands-on collaboration, Girl Scouts and residents are building relationships while creating a space that promotes wellness, social interaction, and shared experiences.
"Projects like this bring so much joy to our residents," said leadership at Providence Place. "Seeing young people invest their time and creativity into a space our residents use every day creates a powerful sense of connection and community."

To support sustainability and ease of maintenance, a timed sprinkler system was installed to provide consistent nightly watering. Newly constructed and stained benches now offer residents a comfortable place to gather, relax, and enjoy the garden.
Looking Ahead
The next phase of the Gardening Rehab Project will continue to enhance both aesthetics and functionality.
In a second courtyard, Providence Place is expanding its garden programming with planters designated for growing fresh food, supporting resident engagement and potential culinary activities once seedlings are ready.
Intergenerational Impact
A key highlight of the initiative is its focus on intergenerational connection. Girl Scouts are working side-by-side with residents, sharing stories, learning from one another, and building lasting relationships.
In addition, Girl Scout Skylar is leading a Gold Award project that further enhances resident spaces. Her work includes designing custom porch planters, creating new cushions for resident rocking chairs, building interactive game tables, and securing resources to improve outdoor infrastructure.

Community Celebration Planned
Providence Place is planning a community celebration later this summer to mark the project's progress and honor the partnerships that made it possible. The event is expected to include residents, Girl Scouts, and local community members, along with a rock painting activity where participants can contribute personalized pieces to the garden space.
"This project reflects the best of what community living can be," leadership added. "It's about collaboration, creativity, and bringing generations together in ways that truly matter."
