Harmony in Music Concert Collab 4/6 @ The Grandel
EntSun News/11014178
ST. LOUIS - EntSun -- Harmony in Music focuses on distinct styles of music from around the globe. Carnatic music – a classical style of music from India - will blend with new age standards and jazz music of the United States. This concert on April 6 at The Grandel will bring together the best of both worlds, taking the audience on a journey through original scores and fusion blends. Audiences will enjoy selections from the Beatle's upbeat classics, the smooth songs of Nora Jones', a rendition of the Irish "Road to Tipperary" with a Indian hillbilly comical twist along with Bollywood's catchy tunes.
Seema Kasthuri has been a practitioner of Carnatic music for decades under the tutelage of experienced teachers under the Gurukula (teacher's house) system. Seema will be presenting a variety of her original compositions, such as "Asatoma Sadgamaya," "My Mother," and "Breaking Boundaries."
Kasthuri will be joined by national touring and recording artist Todd Mosby - an Indian Jazz guitarist and a recipient of ZMR awards. Mosby will be exploring jazz with North Indian Hindustani music, which he studied for over a decade under legendary Imrath Khan.

Kasthuri and Mosby are coming together for the third time to showcase what traditional music can offer when presented with a jazz twist. The creative team of musicians include rhythm expert Prasanna Kasthuri, a well-known dancer and musician, Steve Davis, an extremely talented drummer who has performed with the likes of David Liebman and Bill Evans and popular St. Louis based jazz bassist Ben Coan.
Audiences can expect to hear some rare tunes with artists improvising traditional Indian Ragas (scales) exploring massive rhythmic patterns. A rhythmic cross elaboration of drums, mrudangam (Indian drums), and hand-held drums will add to the thrill of the beats. Also, expect to hear many vocalizations and calculated Swara patterns(notes).
The concert is presented on April 6th, 2024 at 6:30 PM at THE GRANDEL. Tickets are available now through Metrotix. More information is available on sooryaperformingarts.org (https://www.sooryaperformingarts.org/).
