Last year, Governor Abbott signed House Bill 20 and House Bill 120 into law to expand career and technical education opportunities for students across Texas. These bills aim to establish partnerships with higher education institutions and improve college and career advising.
The Governor also mentioned that over $7 billion has been invested in career training programs across Texas in the past two years. This investment reflects a commitment to equipping current workers with necessary skills and providing premier job training at high schools, colleges, and apprenticeship programs.
In addition to promoting workforce development initiatives, Governor Abbott launched the Texas Jobs Council last month. The council's inaugural meeting was held at the Governor's Mansion and focused on identifying executive actions that can be implemented immediately by state agencies to reduce regulatory burdens surrounding workforce development. The council will also present policy and legislative recommendations ahead of the 90th Legislative Session.
The council is expected to deliver a final report in November 2026, outlining recommended executive actions and legislative proposals to strengthen Texas' workforce development system.
Photos of the event will be made available on the Governor's website. Governor Abbott's visit to the IUOE Training Center highlights the state's commitment to providing Texans with the resources they need to succeed in the workforce and maintain Texas' position as the best state in America for doing business and creating jobs.
