~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Kathy Comer as the new Chair of the Texas Council on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders. Comer, a retired resident of Tyler, has been serving on the Council since 2025 and will now lead the organization for a term set at the pleasure of the Governor.
The Texas Council on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders plays a crucial role in coordinating state services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. With Comer at the helm, the Council is expected to continue its efforts in facilitating these services and providing support to those affected by these conditions.
Comer brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She previously served as the East Texas regional director for U.S. Senator John Cornyn and held executive positions with various home builders associations in Austin, Dallas, and Tyler. She is also a member of Catalyst 100 and holds certifications as a Main Street Director.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Comer is actively involved in her community. She is a visionary member of the Women's Fund of Smith County, a sustaining member of The Junior League of Austin, and serves as Volunteer Committee Coordinator for the Texas Book Festival. She also holds the position of secretary on the board of directors for Black Hills Cemetery.
Comer's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Baylor University, an advanced degree in Gerontology and Long-Term Care Administration from University of North Texas, and post-graduate work in early childhood education from The University of Texas at Tyler.
