Governor Abbott Celebrates Game Warden, State Park Police Officer Graduation Ceremony At Texas Capitol

~ During a graduation ceremony held at the Texas Capitol, Governor Greg Abbott celebrated the newest class of Texas Game Wardens and State Park Police Officers. The Governor praised the graduates for their commitment to protecting the state's natural resources and communities.

In his address, Governor Abbott emphasized the important role these officers play in safeguarding places that cannot speak for themselves. He commended them for upholding a standard of courage, integrity, and selfless service as they carry out their duties. The Governor also highlighted the diverse responsibilities of these officers, who not only serve as wildlife officers but also as law enforcement officers, border defenders, rescue responders, and all-weather protectors of Texas.

Governor Abbott specifically recognized the lifesaving efforts of Game Wardens during last year's Fourth of July floods. He noted that they were among the first responders on the scene, utilizing helicopters and secure teams to rescue Texans in danger. The Governor also acknowledged their crucial role in combatting illegal wildlife trafficking and securing remote areas along the southern border.

The graduation ceremony included 24 new Texas Game Wardens who will serve 26 counties and four Texas State Park Police Officers who will be stationed at three state parks. These graduates were joined by top officials from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department including Executive Director David Yoskowitz, Colonel Ron VanderRoest, Lieutenant Colonel Ben Baker, Director of State Parks Rodney Franklin, Deputy Director of State Parks Justin Rhodes, Park Police Chief Wes Masur, Major Jason Bussey, and other state officials.
