Governor Abbott Appoints Three To Texas Commission On Law Enforcement

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed three individuals to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. David Criner, Jason Griffin, and Rita Watkins, Ed.D. have been selected to serve on the commission for terms that will expire on August 30, 2031.
The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement is responsible for establishing and enforcing standards to ensure that the people of Texas are served by highly trained and ethical law enforcement, corrections, and telecommunications personnel.
David Criner, a resident of Midland, brings a wealth of experience to the commission as the Midland County Sheriff. He is also the second vice president of the Sheriff's Association of Texas and is actively involved in various community organizations such as the Midland Downtown Lion's Club, Midland Rotary Club, and the Midland Exchange Club. In addition to his professional duties, Criner also serves as a board member for the Permian Basin Law Enforcement Academy and volunteers with organizations such as Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry, Meals on Wheels, and Midland Senior Center. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from The University of Texas Permian Basin.

Joining Criner on the commission is Jason Griffin from Liberty Hill. Griffin currently serves as an assistant chief at the Texas Department of Public Safety. He received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State University (formerly known as Southwest Texas State University).
Rita Watkins, Ed.D., hailing from College Station, brings her expertise as a self-employed licensed professional counselor-supervisor to the commission. She is a member of both the Texas Counseling Association and National Board of Certified Counselors. Watkins holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University (SHSU), a Master of Public Administration from Texas A&M University, and a Master of Arts in Counseling and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from SHSU.
With their diverse backgrounds and extensive experience in their respective fields, Criner, Griffin, and Watkins are well-equipped to serve on the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and uphold its mission of ensuring the highest standards for law enforcement in the state. Their terms will expire on August 30, 2031.
