~ Governor Greg Abbott has officially opened nominations for the 2026 Star of Texas Awards, which recognize the bravery and sacrifice of peace officers, firefighters, emergency medical first responders, and federal law enforcement personnel who were seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. The nominations are due to the Office of the Governor by June 15, 2026.
In a statement, Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude for these community heroes who risk their lives every day to protect their fellow Texans. He emphasized that the Star of Texas Award is a way to honor their courage and dedication to serving the state.

To be considered for the 2026 award, the critical incident must have taken place between September 1, 2003 and June 15, 2026. Nominations can also be made for private citizens who were seriously injured or killed while assisting a peace officer, firefighter, or emergency medical first responder in carrying out their duties.
Nominations can be submitted through an online form on the official website. This is an opportunity for citizens to recognize and show appreciation for those who have selflessly served and protected their communities. The winners will be announced at a special ceremony in 2026.
