Governor Abbott Announces Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund Grant To Avant Technology
EntSun News/11090289
~ In a move to further solidify Texas as a leader in advanced manufacturing, Governor Greg Abbott announced today that Avant Technology, Inc. will receive a grant of $4,830,000 from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF). This grant will support the expansion of Avant's manufacturing facility in Pharr and is expected to create 250 new jobs while also representing over $20 million in capital investment.
Governor Abbott expressed his excitement about the expansion, stating that "Texas is the nation's magnet for advanced manufacturing." He believes that this move by Avant Technology will not only generate high-skilled jobs in the Rio Grande Valley but also provide opportunities for hands-on training for the workforce of tomorrow. The governor also emphasized the importance of collaboration with industry leaders to maintain Texas' position as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing and innovation.
Avant Technology, headquartered in Pflugerville, specializes in designing and manufacturing semiconductor assemblies such as solid-state drives (SSDs) and memory modules. With this expansion, they plan to produce more complex semiconductor assemblies tailored for enterprise, automotive, and industrial markets. In addition to job creation, Avant is also partnering with South Texas College to provide students with hands-on access to equipment and real-world experience in semiconductor electronics assembly, quality control, and advanced manufacturing skills.

Avant Technology CEO and President Tim Peddecord expressed his gratitude for the grant from TSIF and Governor Abbott's support. He believes that this investment will not only advance their cutting-edge memory technology but also create high-skilled jobs and solidify Texas as a premier hub for semiconductor innovation and growth.
Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa welcomed Avant Technology to Pharr and commended Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez and the city for their leadership in attracting this investment. He sees this as proof that the Rio Grande Valley has the talent, workforce, and pro-business communities needed to support the semiconductor industry. Senator Adam Hinojosa also praised the investment, stating that it will bring advanced manufacturing and high-quality jobs to the region and create momentum for families, students, and the workforce.
Representative Armando "Mando" Martinez echoed these sentiments, calling the investment a major win for the Rio Grande Valley and Texas' semiconductor industry. He believes that by bringing high-skilled jobs and equipping South Texas College students with key manufacturing skills, this investment will strengthen the workforce and create new opportunities for families in the region.

The Texas CHIPS Act was signed into law by Governor Abbott in 2023 to establish TSIF and the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium (TSIC). These programs, administered by the Texas CHIPS Office within the Office of the Governor's Economic Development & Tourism Office, aim to leverage Texas' investments in the semiconductor industry, encourage expansion of semiconductor-related companies in the state, develop expertise at Texas institutions of higher education, and maintain Texas' position as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing.
This grant to Avant Technology is just one example of how these programs are supporting innovation and growth in Texas. With continued investments and collaborations with industry leaders like Avant Technology, Governor Abbott believes that Texas will remain at the forefront of advanced manufacturing for years to come.
