Governor Abbott Announces Over $7.7 Million In Grants To North Texas Area Veteran Service Organizations

~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced that a total of $7,746,000 in Funds for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 28 organizations in the North Texas region. This funding is part of the Texas Veterans Commission's (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour and will provide services to an estimated 4,900 local veterans.

During the announcement, Governor Abbott expressed his unwavering support for the brave men and women who have fought for the freedom and liberties enjoyed by all Texans today. He stated that these grants will provide crucial support and services to veterans and their families in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The governor also emphasized his pride in supporting our nation's heroes and helping them prosper for generations to come.

Chuck Wright, TVC Commission Secretary and Marine veteran, also expressed his gratitude towards the grant recipients for their commitment to serving veterans. He acknowledged that North Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area are home to a large veteran population and a robust military presence. Wright commended the community for giving back to those who have served our country.

The FVA grant recipients were announced along with their respective services. Canine Companions for Independence received $300,000 for their Service Dog Program while Citizens Development Center was awarded $201,000 for Trade Skills Training. The City of Dallas received $53,000 for Veterans Treatment Court, $70,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes, and $150,000 for Financial Assistance.

Similarly, the City of Fort Worth was granted $300,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes and $340,000 for Financial Assistance. Collin County received $400,000 for Veterans Treatment Court, $100,000 for Misdemeanor Veterans Treatment Court, $50,000 for Financial Assistance, and $400,000 for Clinical Counseling.

Other recipients included Dallas County with a grant of $400,000 for Veterans Treatment Court; Denton County with $327,000 for Veterans Treatment Court; Denton County MHMR Center with $150,000 for Non-Clinical Mental Health Services; Ellis County with $200,000 for Veterans Treatment Court; and Equest with $120,000 for Clinical Counseling.

Family Pathfinders of Tarrant County received $136,000 for Financial Assistance; Garland Area Habitat for Humanity was granted $250,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes; Jake E's Riding Round Up received $135,000 for Clinical Counseling; and Meals on Wheels and Senior Services was awarded $147,000 for Food Meal Services.

Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County received a total of $615,000 in grants - $300,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes and $315,000 for Food Meal Services. Npower was granted $300,000 for Trade Skills Training while Patriot Paws Service Dogs received the largest grant of $400,000 for their Service Dog Program.

Pecan Valley MHMR Region was awarded a total of $675,000 - $400,000 for Clinical Counseling and $275,000 for Financial Assistance. Spay Neuter Network received a grant of $300,000 for Pet Lodging & Veterinary Care while Tarrant County was granted a total of $397,000 - all towards Veterans Treatment Court.

Other recipients included Texas Neighborhood Services with a grant of $250,000 for Financial Assistance; Texoma Council of Governments with a grant of $100,000 also towards Financial Assistance; The Visiting Nurse Association of Texas with a grant of 75$000 towards Food Meal Services; United Way of Tarrant County with a grant of 200$00 towards Elder Care; Veterans Healthcare Alliance with a grant of 30$00 towards Trade Skills Training; and Volunteers of America Texas with a grant of 275$00 towards Financial Assistance.

In May this year, TVC Commissioners approved a total of 190 grants amounting to more than $40.8 million for 160 organizations across Texas. These grants are expected to provide direct services to over 125,600 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses throughout the state.

Since 2009, over $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 FVA grants for various services such as emergency financial assistance, transportation, legal services, family support services, home modification, and rental and mortgage assistance.

With these grants and the continued support from the state of Texas, it is hoped that our nation's heroes will receive the necessary support and resources they deserve.
