Governor Abbott Announces Federal Assistance For Stinky Fire In Texas Panhandle
EntSun News/11092640
~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) for the Stinky Fire in Potter County. The fire has caused damage to homes, property, and infrastructure, and has led to evacuations in the Texas Panhandle.
According to Governor Abbott, this grant approval will provide additional resources to help keep Texans safe from the threat of wildfires. He expressed his gratitude to the Trump Administration for providing these resources and also acknowledged the bravery of firefighters on the ground who are working to protect Texans.
The Stinky Fire, which started yesterday, has already burned an estimated 2,500 acres and is currently 20 percent contained. As a result of the fire, approximately 540 homes in the surrounding area have been evacuated. State and local response personnel are actively working on suppression, containment, and public safety operations.

With this grant approval, the State of Texas is now eligible for 75 percent reimbursement from the federal government for eligible costs associated with wildfire suppression. These grants are available to support states and local jurisdictions in managing and controlling fires that have the potential to become major disasters.
In response to increased wildfire conditions across West and Northwest Texas, Governor Abbott has directed state wildfire response resources to remain deployed by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM). The Texas Emergency Management Council agencies are also closely monitoring these conditions.
Texans can access wildfire resources such as safety tips, current fire information, and damage reporting tools through TDEM's Disaster Portal online at disaster.texas.gov. As efforts continue to contain and suppress the Stinky Fire in Potter County, Governor Abbott urges all Texans to stay informed and take necessary precautions during this time.
