Georgia's Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful to Celebrate America Recycles Day at November 8 Community Event

EntSun News/11075356
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - EntSun -- Commemorated annually on November 15 by millions across the nation, America Recycles Day is a Keep America Beautiful (KAB) initiative that promotes recycling and encourages communities to pledge to reduce, reuse, and recycle. For Georgia's Gwinnett County leg of the celebration, KAB affiliate – Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful (GC&B)  – will partner with Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management to host an America Recycles Day event at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds on Saturday, November 8. Between 9 a.m. and noon, residents are invited to drop off select hard-to-recycle items that are not accepted curbside.

"While you'll find Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful out and about in the community throughout November and December, America Recycles Day always marks one of our final major events of the year," said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director of the eco-focused nonprofit. "And it's fitting! Although we are focused year-round on community cleanup and beautification projects, environmental education through Gwinnett County Public Schools, promotion of sustainable practices, and monitoring of our local water sources through Adopt-A-Stream, conveying the importance of recycling remains a foundational element of our organization. In November 2024 alone, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and our fellow Keep America Beautiful affiliates collected 2.4 million pounds of recyclables."

Items that will be collected include:
  • Paper for shredding – Limit paper to five copier paper boxes
  • Electronics – Recycling is free except for TVs, monitors, and printers – ($15 cash fee per monitor or regular TV; $5 cash fee per printer). Projectors/Console TVs will be accepted for a $35 cash fee
  • Paint – Oil-based and latex paint will be accepted, but participants are asked to limit their paint to 10 gallons per vehicle. Empty or rusted paint cans will not be accepted, and cans must contain at least 25% wet paint to be recycled
  • Tires – Participants are asked to limit their drop-off to 8 tires per vehicle. No dealer tires will be accepted, and tires must have rims removed and be free of water and debris
  • Gently Used Clothes and Sneakers
Participants should bear in mind that boxes and containers will NOT be returned, so they may wish to place items in disposable containers. To ensure the success of another America Recycles Day (https://gwinnettcb.org/events/america-recycles-day/) event this year, Marlatt has issued a last call for volunteers. She indicated that volunteering for community events is best suited for families with children aged 16+ and groups – like churches, companies, neighborhoods, civic organizations, and schools. Anyone interested can register at https://cerv.is/0024×5113 (https://cerv.is/0024x5113). Asked to plan to be on-site from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers will receive a complimentary event t-shirt while supplies last. Gwinnett County Fairgrounds is located at 2405 Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville.
