ATLANTA ~ Georgia's net tax collections for the month of January have shown a slight decrease compared to the same period in 2025, according to recent data released by the state's Department of Revenue. The total net tax revenue for January was $3.03 billion, which is $18.1 million less than what was collected in January 2025.

This decrease can be attributed to changes within various tax categories. Individual income tax collections saw a decrease of $27.4 million, or 1.7%, compared to last year. Additionally, income tax withholding payments decreased by $59.1 million, while individual income tax estimated payments increased by $37.9 million.

On the other hand, gross sales and use tax collections saw an increase of $79.1 million, or 4.3%, compared to last year. Net sales and use tax also increased by $36.3 million, or 4%. The adjusted sales tax distribution to local governments also saw an increase of $21.8 million.

Corporate income tax collections for the month totaled $122.8 million, which is a decrease of $38.1 million from last year's collection of $160.9 million. This decrease can be attributed to a decline in corporate income tax estimated payments and return payments.

In terms of motor vehicle taxes, there was a decrease in motor vehicle tag and title fee collections by $3.8 million, while title ad valorem tax (TAVT) collections increased by $0.2 million.

Overall, year-to-date net tax revenue collections through seven months have seen an increase of 345.6 million, or 1.8%, compared to the same period in FY 2025. The total net tax revenue for the first seven months of this fiscal year is approximately $19.75 billion, while it was $19.41 billion in FY 2025.

The Department of Revenue will continue to monitor and analyze tax collections throughout the fiscal year to ensure that the state's budget remains on track.
