Florida: Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Four to the Board of Osteopathic Medicine

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a recent announcement, Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed two new members and reappointed two existing members to the Board of Osteopathic Medicine. The newly appointed members are Terry Reid-Paul and Derek "Patrick" Rooney, while the reappointed members are Dr. William Kirsh and Dr. Monica Mortensen.
Reid-Paul brings a wealth of experience to the board as the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Keiser University. She is also an active member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and was recognized with the Mallinckrodt Award of Excellence for Outstanding Leadership Performance in 2007. Reid-Paul holds a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University and a master's degree in business administration and health care management from the University of Phoenix.
Rooney, a Shareholder at GrayRobinson, P.A., is also actively involved in his community. He currently serves as the President of the Charlotte County Economic Development Partnership, Chair of the Punta Gorda Utility Advisory Board, and Treasurer of the Tiger Bay Club of Southwest Florida. Rooney earned his bachelor's degree in political science and international relations from Florida International University and his juris doctor from American University.

Dr. Monica Mortensen, a Pediatric Endocrinologist for Nemours Children's Health, has been reappointed to the board. She previously served as a Pediatric Endocrinologist for Central Florida Family and Project Health. Dr. Mortensen holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Loyola University and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Midwestern University.
The other reappointed member is Dr. William Kirsh, who currently practices at the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics as well as serving as Chief Medical Officer for Sentry Data Systems. He is board-certified in family medicine, geriatrics, hospice, and palliative medicine. Dr. Kirsh received his bachelor's degree from Florida State University, his master's degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University, and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Southeastern University.
These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. The Board of Osteopathic Medicine plays a crucial role in regulating the practice of osteopathic medicine in the state and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients. With these new and reappointed members, the board will continue to uphold its responsibilities and serve the community with dedication and expertise.
