FACTS NOT ON FOX NEWS: California attracts more startup investment than 49 states combined
EntSun News/11100569
~ In a recent press release, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California has once again secured its position as the top state for venture capital funding. In 2026, the Golden State attracted a staggering $366 billion in venture capital, surpassing the combined total of all 49 other states.
This achievement is a testament to California's unmatched leadership in technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation. With more than 4,000 startups based in California receiving funding this year, it is clear that entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators continue to see the state as the ideal location for turning ideas into successful companies.
Governor Newsom emphasized that despite attempts by right-wing propaganda to discredit California's economic success, the numbers speak for themselves. The state's dominance in attracting venture capital is a reflection of its strong economy and thriving business environment.

Since Governor Newsom took office, California's annual GDP has grown by over $1.18 trillion and reached $4.25 trillion in 2025. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, the state's economic output reached an annualized $4.4 trillion – a growth rate that far outpaces other states like Texas and Florida.
California also continues to lead the nation in various industries such as new business starts, manufacturing, high-tech businesses, and agriculture. It is home to more businesses than Texas or Florida and remains America's start-up capital with over 4.3 million small businesses employing 7.6 million Californians.
The state's strong economy has also translated into job creation and productivity growth. In the first quarter of 2026, California added approximately 131,500 jobs – the largest increase among all states. Its workforce also saw a productivity increase of 4.2% in 2025 – making it the single largest contributor to national productivity growth.

Governor Newsom signed several bills on August 22nd aimed at further boosting California's economic success. These include AB 1651, which focuses on the use of artificial intelligence by the State Bar of California, and AB 2624, which addresses privacy concerns related to technology.
In addition to these legislative efforts, Governor Newsom also announced the launch of the California Golden Start Challenge – a public-private partnership aimed at increasing access to higher education and career training for children. This initiative is in conjunction with the celebration of one million families claiming CalKIDS "baby bonds" accounts, providing free money for kids to use towards their future education.
The Governor also made several appointments on August 21st, including Mike Marshall as the State Chief Information Security Officer at the California Department of Technology.
With its strong economy, thriving business environment, and innovative initiatives like the California Golden Start Challenge, it is no surprise that California continues to attract more venture capital funding than any other state in the nation. As Governor Newsom stated, "this is where ideas become companies, companies become industries, and the future gets built."
