Empowering Women Through Sustainable Fashion: The Celine Haddad Story

NEW YORK - EntSun -- Céline Haddad, a French Lebanese Womenswear designer, took the time to answer a few questions for the Shop Local Designers Team. She shared great detail about her experience and great lessons of being a part of the fashion industry.

Haddad was willing to share her inspiration as a designer and her deep rooted passion behind the brand she has created. In an interview, she shared the process of her brand construction, the wise advice of an experienced business owner and designer and a glimpse into the future of her brand.

"There are several designers that I particularly appreciate. One of them is Simon Porte Jacquemus. I like how he has the perfect balance of conceptual and commercial. His designs are daring and feminine at the same time, and bold yet delicate. The fact that he's a self-made man and built an empire at such a young age inspires me continuously and pushes me to work harder," said Haddad.

She is also a fan of Virgil Abloh's Runway designs specifically for its urban, modern, sexy and feminine attributes. Haddad perceived his creations to embody the empowerment of women. She admires how Virgil Abloh made his way up to becoming the artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear collection and the irony of the quotation marks on his Off-White designs.

"My journey debuted in New York when I was invited to present a collection at the Vancouver Fashion Week. I decided to use the opportunity to present a project I've had in mind for a while which was launching Céline Haddad," said Haddad.

The idea of her brand started from her desire to create something meaningful and impactful. To do so, she chose a couple of values that both her brand and herself stand for which are: Sustainability, women empowerment and story-telling for a cause. She knew that she was not necessarily going to obey the norms of the industry and would instead do what felt right.
