Dr. Heavenly Kimes Joins TSA Workers at Atlanta Airport, Leads Food Drive and Stands in Solidarity During Government Shutdown

EntSun News/11087304
ATLANTA - EntSun -- Congressional candidate Dr. Heavenly Kimes joined Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers, union leaders, and advocates at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday, March 16th  for a press conference addressing the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on essential federal workers.

Hosted alongside AFGE Local 554, the press conference brought attention to the growing hardship TSA employees are facing as they miss paychecks while continuing to report to work. The event drew more than 10 media outlets and highlighted the urgent need for congressional action to ensure essential workers are paid.

In addition to standing in solidarity with TSA workers, Dr. Kimes led a successful food drive providing thousands of dollars' worth of food and essential items to families impacted by the shutdown.

"TSA workers are showing up every day to protect millions of travelers, even while facing uncertainty at home," said Dr. Kimes. "I stepped forward because leadership is not about waiting for a title — it's about taking action when people need you most. No family should have to wonder how they're going to eat because of a political standstill."

Union leaders, including AFGE Local 554 President Aaron Barker, Vice President Adrienne Walker, and other representatives, spoke to the real-time financial strain TSA workers are experiencing. As spring break travel increases and wait times rise nationwide, these frontline employees continue to serve without clarity on when they will be compensated.

Dr. Kimes emphasized that her participation reflects her commitment to showing up for the community before even taking office.

"This is exactly why I'm running for Congress," Kimes added. "We need leadership that understands urgency, accountability, and compassion. These workers deserve more than recognition — they deserve action."

The event underscores Dr. Kimes' ongoing grassroots approach to her campaign in Georgia's 13th District, where she has focused on direct community engagement, service initiatives, and advocacy around economic stability and working families.

As the campaign continues, Dr. Kimes has pledged to remain actively engaged in addressing real-time challenges affecting District 13 residents and essential workers across the region.
