Community Rallies to Help Restore Shore House After Clubhouse Suffers Major Damage
EntSun News/11099502
Following a crash that damaged its Long Branch clubhouse, Shore House is seeking community support for emergency repairs and to ensure adults living with mental illness continue receiving the connection and support they rely on.
LONG BRANCH, N.J. - EntSun -- Shore House is calling on the community to help restore its clubhouse after a vehicle crashed into the nonprofit's Long Branch facility, causing significant structural damage and forcing the organization to temporarily relocate its programs. The accident occurred during the early morning hours of July 18. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the City of Long Branch has determined the building is unsafe to occupy until extensive repairs can be completed. For the adults living with persistent mental illness who rely on Shore House, the loss extends far beyond the building itself.
The clubhouse is the foundation of their daily routine, a place where members feel safe, welcomed, valued and connected. Through the internationally recognized Clubhouse Model, members work side by side with staff during the Work-Ordered Day, helping operate the clubhouse while developing employment skills, pursuing education, building confidence and supporting one another on their recovery journey. Without that consistent routine and sense of belonging, many members face the risk of isolation, making it more important than ever to keep the Shore House community together.
"When I first heard that a car had crashed into Shore House and that we had to close the building, I was scared," said Shore House member Andrew. "Shore House is part of my daily routine and a place where I feel safe, supported, and connected. I wasn't sure what would happen next. But the staff worked so hard to find new places for us to meet so we could stay together."

Although the clubhouse remains closed, Shore House immediately mobilized to continue serving its members by relocating programming to temporary locations throughout the community. The organization is especially grateful to Rising Treetops at Oakhurst and St. James Church for opening their doors and ensuring members could continue gathering, participating in programming, and supporting one another during this difficult time.
"Shore House needs our support now more than ever. The clubhouse has enrolled more members than ever before, proving just how impactful and in-demand this model is for those living with mental health disorders," states Siobhan Gallagher, Board Member. "At the same time, rising costs for food and maintenance continue to grow. And this car accident now leaves our members without their daily routine and safe space. Your support truly makes a difference in helping restore and sustain this vital community."
While programming continues, the unexpected relocation has placed a significant financial strain on the organization. Shore House is now covering the cost of temporary meeting space while also losing access to important in-kind support, including food donations previously provided through Fulfill. At the same time, emergency repairs must begin as quickly as possible to make the clubhouse safe for members to return.
Shore House is asking individuals, businesses, foundations, and community organizations to support its emergency recovery efforts. Every donation will help fund building repairs, temporary programming expenses, and the services members depend on each day.
