(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police Department Launches Updates to Flock Transparency Portal
The Columbia Police Department has recently announced the launch of several updates to its online Flock Transparency Portal. This portal provides citizens with a deeper understanding of how automated license plate reader (ALPR) technology is used in Columbia to ensure community safety while also protecting privacy.
The updated Flock Transparency Portal now includes new features such as public safety audit case and CAD numbers, which are viewable to the public for every search conducted by the department in the past 30 days. This addition aims to increase accountability and transparency within the department.
In addition, the portal now displays the top offense types searched by CPD over the previous 30 days, giving citizens insight into what types of crimes the technology is being used to investigate. The data retention period for all information collected by the Flock Camera System is also highlighted on the portal, ensuring residents are aware of how long their data is stored before being permanently deleted.

Another important addition to the portal is a current list of agencies that have access to data collected by CPD's Flock Safety System. It is worth noting that this data sharing is strictly limited to agencies within Missouri, as per department policy. This safeguard has been in place since the program was first implemented in Columbia.
To address any misinformation surrounding ALPR technology, a new fact sheet has been added to clarify what this system does and debunk common misconceptions. The portal also features recent success stories from across Missouri where Flock cameras have been instrumental in solving crimes and enhancing public safety.
Furthermore, residents can now access CPD's policy regarding the use of ALPR Technology on their official website through the Flock Transparency Portal. The department remains committed to utilizing technology responsibly while maintaining an open dialogue with its citizens.
Citizens are encouraged to visit the updated Flock Transparency Portal on CPD's official website (https://transparency.flocksafety.com/columbia-m...) to learn more about the department's use of ALPR technology. The Columbia Police Department is dedicated to protecting the community and keeping its residents informed.
