Columbia Police arrest arson suspect in residential structure fire on Newton Drive

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police have made an arrest in connection with a residential fire that occurred on March 20th. Anjaleque Bragg, 31, of Columbia, has been charged with first-degree arson and first-degree assault.

The incident took place at approximately 10 a.m. in the 1900 block of Newton Drive. Upon arrival, both the Columbia Fire Department and Columbia Police found flames and smoke coming from a two-story duplex. Firefighters were able to quickly locate and extinguish the fire within four minutes.

Fortunately, all occupants of the structure had already evacuated before emergency services arrived. However, one resident was taken to a local hospital for an unrelated illness.

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.8477. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online at http://www.p3tips.com/899. A cash reward of up to $2,500 may be given for information leading to an arrest.

According to Missouri statutes 569.040 and 565.050, Bragg could face charges of first-degree arson and first-degree assault for her alleged involvement in the incident.

Case number 2026-002422 has been assigned to this case by authorities as they continue their investigation into this serious matter.
