Columbia: Human remains identified as 2023 missing person

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police Department announced on Tuesday that human remains found at Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area have been identified as Daniel Thompson, who was reported missing in July of 2023. Thompson, 41, was last seen in the 2600 block of White Gate Drive in Columbia.

According to the press release, Thompson's vehicle was found unoccupied at the conservation area near Finger Lakes State Park during a large-scale search conducted by officers. Despite their efforts, Thompson could not be located.

Nearly two years later, on March 22, 2025, human remains were discovered at the same location. It wasn't until March 17, 2026 that these remains were positively identified as belonging to Thompson. The next of kin has been notified.

The Columbia Police Department expressed their gratitude to the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their assistance in this case. They are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact them at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.8477.

CrimeStoppers also offers a cash reward of up to $2,500 for any information that leads to an arrest in this case. The case number is listed as 2023-006191 for reference.
