Columbia: City offices closed Friday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth
EntSun News/11094820
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - As the nation prepares to celebrate Juneteenth, the City of Columbia has announced that all city offices will be closed on Friday, June 19 in observance of this important holiday. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and is a time for reflection and celebration.
The closure of city offices will impact several services, including public transit and parking enforcement. However, residential curbside trash and recycling collection will continue as scheduled on June 19. Residents are encouraged to download the COMO Recycle and Trash App for collection day reminders and service notifications. Any questions about the collection schedule can be directed to the Contact Center at 573.874.CITY (2489). The landfill will also remain open on June 19.
Go COMO, Columbia's public transit system, will not be operating on June 19. In addition, all Go COMO fixed route and Paratransit services will begin at noon on Saturday, June 20 due to the downtown Juneteenth parade. The Gold and Orange bus routes will also have detours around celebrations at Douglass Park on June 20. Passengers are advised to check Go COMO's social media pages, the ETA Transit app or signs posted at Wabash Bus Station and in bus shelters for more information about these detours.

Parking enforcement will also be suspended on June 19 in honor of Juneteenth.
The City's Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) will operate at reduced hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, with rec swim available from noon to 2:30 p.m. For those looking to beat the summer heat, the Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center, Lake of the Woods Pool and Douglass Family Aquatic Center will be open from noon to 5 p.m.
While administrative offices for both the police and fire departments will be closed, all other emergency services will still be available. In the event of an emergency, residents can rest assured that they will receive the necessary assistance.
Although Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services will be closed on June 19, Animal Control will still respond to emergencies such as a vicious dog or a bat in a home.
For any emergencies related to Water & Light, Sewer and Stormwater, residents can find contact information on CoMo.gov/Utilities.
As the City of Columbia joins the nation in honoring Juneteenth, residents are reminded to take this time to reflect on the past and celebrate how far we have come as a society.
