Colorado Springs: Rampart Park Drainage Project to start next week

~ Colorado Springs to Begin Rampart Park Drainage Project, Temporary Closures Expected

The City of Colorado Springs has announced plans to commence work on the Rampart Park Drainage project starting on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The project is expected to last approximately three weeks, depending on weather conditions.

According to city officials, the project may temporarily affect entry to various areas of Rampart Park, including the dog park, disc golf course, basketball courts, BMX track, baseball field, and playground. This will be due to the closure of the access road off Lexington Drive.

However, crews do not anticipate the access road closure to last more than three days, as it is weather dependent. Any updates regarding road closures and access will be posted on Colorado Springs Parks' social media accounts (@CoSpringsParks).

The drainage project aims to make repairs along an open channel located on the north side of the park easement and the south side of the new development area. As part of this project, crews will also install a pipe to convey water and bury it in order to protect the retaining wall of the new development area. This retaining wall had collapsed during heavy rainfall in summer 2025.

Due to the presence of large trucks and equipment in the area, visitors are advised that the road will be restricted to a single 10-foot lane for entering and exiting the park. Outgoing traffic is requested to yield to incoming vehicles when leaving the park.
