Colorado: Governor Polis Signs Laws to Boost Geothermal Energy and Ensure Access to High-Quality Child Care
EntSun News/11093654
DENVER ~ In a move to promote clean energy solutions and protect the environment, Governor Jared Polis of Colorado signed SB26-142 - Development of Thermal Energy Resources into law today. The bill, sponsored by Senators Matt Ball and Cathy Kipp, and Representatives Junie Joseph and Ryan Gonzalez, aims to boost the use of geothermal energy in the state.
During the signing ceremony, Governor Polis highlighted the benefits of geothermal energy, stating that it is reliable, clean, and low-cost. He also emphasized how it can protect Coloradans from the unpredictable price fluctuations of gas. "In Colorado, we are harnessing the heat beneath our feet," said Governor Polis. "This law will boost geothermal energy to save people money on energy costs and protect our environment. Colorado is open for geothermal business and we welcome innovative clean energy solutions to make energy more affordable, sustainable, and reliable."
Governor Polis also signed SB26-020 - Child Care Provider Licensing & Quality into law during the ceremony. This bill, sponsored by Senators Scott Bright and Matt Ball, and Representatives Emily Sirota and Ryan Gonzalez, aims to ensure that all children in Colorado receive high-quality child care by cutting licensing red tape and supporting child care providers.

"Colorado is leading the way in early childhood education and saving families money," said Governor Polis. "We've passed free full-day kindergarten and popular universal free preschool which saves families $6,300 per year. Today we build on that nation-leading success by cutting red tape and streamlining the provider licensing process. This will lower the cost of childcare for families and prevent delays that reduce access to much-needed child care services. I thank the sponsors for getting this bipartisan bill to my desk."
In addition to these two bills, Governor Polis also signed several others during the ceremony including HB26-1225 - Distributed Energy Resource Requirements sponsored by Representatives Leslie Smith and Jenny Wilford, and Senators Matt Ball and Scott Bright; HB26-1230 - Extend Conservation Easement Tax Credit sponsored by Representatives Mathew Martinez and Elizabeth Velasco, and Senators Dylan Roberts and Barbara Kirkmeyer; HB26-1282 - Eliminate Duplicative Regulation of School Child Care Centers sponsored by Representatives Jacque Phillips and Lisa Goldstein, and Senator Kyle Mullica; HB26-1299 - Reducing Regulatory Burden on Education Providers sponsored by Representatives Lori Garcia Sander and Meghan Lukens, and Senators Byron Pelton, and Jeff Bridges; and HB26-1141 - Discriminatory Practices in Public Schools sponsored by Representative Jennifer Bacon, and Senators Chris Kolker and Janice Marchman.
